It must have been a proud day for Dr. Bill Donnoe, to be able to give out two important vocational awards ( Carmichael Glass Awards) to two young ladies, Dr. Amy Daby, and Dr.Allison Dabywho had worked for his company, while in high school as paid interns. Unfortunately Amy could not be there for the presentation of her award, but fortunately her mother Jill Daby was there to take it for her. Allison Daby was there and said a few words after accepting her award. Below is a synopsis of their achievements to date which best describes their generosity in working for charity and I note that they both have been influenced by Rotary.
Amy Daby, DDS
Vocational Service Award presented on January 14, 2020 to Dr. Amy Daby for service to the community and her vocation as she begins her career in Dentistry
• Undergraduate work at the University of Nevada, Reno.
• DDS University of the Pacific.
• Dr. Amy Daby is now practicing dentistry in the Sacramento area; she has been working both in the family practice with her father, Dr. Joe Daby and her mother Jill Daby; and providing dental care for children through a group practice.
• Amy’s service work has taken her recently to Jamaica where she provided volunteer humanitarian dental care for underprivileged children, with The Thousand Smiles Foundation.
• She comes from a Rotary background, and attended RYLA Camp for District 5180 during her high school years at Del Campo.
• During her high school years Amy worked as a paid intern for my company; Donnoe & Associates.
Allison Daby, DPT
Vocational Service Award presented on January 14, 2020 to Dr. Allison Daby for service to the community and her vocation as she begins her career in Physical Therapy
• Undergraduate work at the University of Nevada, Reno in Kinesiology and Exercise Science.
• DPT University of the Pacific.
• Dr. Allison Daby is now practicing physical therapy in the Sacramento area, working in pediatric care.
• Allison’s service work included time in Mexico last year to help distribute wheelchairs. The trip continued the rich tradition of the University of the Pacific Department of Physical Therapy partnering with Rotary International and Hope Haven West, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing mobility in the developing world. The team distributed 340 wheelchairs in seven days in Veracruz City and Coatepec, Mexico. Each recipient was given a refurbished wheelchair or a Hope Haven West pediatric wheelchair that was specifically customized for them, a process that took between 30 minutes and five hours.
• Allison is also an active volunteer with Big Brothers and Big Sisters of America.
• She comes from a Rotary background, and attended RYLA Camp for District 5180 during her high school years at Del Campo.
• During her high school years Allison also worked as a paid intern for my company; Donnoe & Associates.
I think both Allison and Jill Darby were appreciative that, asBill Donnoe noted, two books will be donated inAllison andAmy'sname to the Carmichael Library (Sacramento Public Library system)

RAFFLE
Seemslike we are running into a boring streak where there is no money in the kitty and the same person is now getting the winning ticket. So Rich Plath had the winning ticket for the second week in a row, but drew the King of Spades, I didn't see him get a bottle of wine.
WE ARE HAVING A CRAB FEED ON SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 8TH, 2020 AT THE LA SIERRA COMMUNITY CENTER IN CARMICHAEL. PLEASE CONTACT OUR CHAIRPERSON VINCE IOSSOAT 916-803-4766 OR EMAIL AT vamaio@att.net . Please Hurry, tickets are limited.....
During the incumbency of President David Thorman,(2013-14) it was decided that instead of giving a particular gift, ie coffee mug, pen etc. to honor our guest speaker each week, we would simply donate a book to the Carmichael Library. So below are many of the books that we have donated in honor of recent speakers.
It is the "gift that keeps of giving" because those who will check out these books from the library will derive many hours of pleasure for years to come, and it enhances learning and literacy. The books are chosen byBertaBoegel, Branch Supervisor, Carmichael Library, subsidiary of the Sacramento Public Library.

Yourbulletin editor just couldn’t help bringing to your notice the relevance of the last six “Book Donations” by Branch Supervisor, Berta Boegel given “in honor of” our recent keynote speakers to the Carmichael Library (Sacramento Public Library) at our Club meetings. Note that Berta has fined tuned the speakers topic to the subject of the book! They are below:
Missy McCall, who talked about “Human Trafficking”, book donated in her name: Under theBirch Tree: A Memoir of Discovering Connections and Finding a Home by Nancy Chadwick.
Mark Urban, who talked about a trip to Ethiopia, book donated in his name: The Pharaoh’sTreasure: The Origin of Paper and the Rise of Western Civilization by John Gaudet.
Dr. Beverly Wesner-Hoen, who talked about being a part of Rotary Fellowship, book donated Why To Kill a Mockingbird Matters: What Harper Lee’s Book and Iconic American Film Mean to Us Today by Tom Santopietro
Doug Haaland, who talked about his trip to Israel, book donated in his name: Shaya: An Odysseyof Food, My Journey Back to Israel by Alon Shaya.
and 6. Bill Baxter and Rich Plath, who talked about “Fly Fishing” – get this – “On the Fly”: HoboLiterature and Songs 1879-1941 ed. By Iain Mcintyre. How appropriate….
As of June 26, 2017, we have purchased nearly 160 titles in honor of our speakers! Because of the large number of books, we are not showing them all at this time.
