A special project has nearly been completed with the collaboration of the Arden Arcade and Carmichael Rotary Club volunteers. The project is to provide shelter for a special desert tortoise,  Cowboy Sparkles, at the Effie Yeaw Nature Center. So far, two days of work have been spent on the project and they are waiting on sides and tops to finish the project in one other session. This will make at least one Desert  Tortoise very happy,  (and will insure for him to have a long healthy life at the center. The project made television news on CBS! - here are the links:

Our Carmichael Club have been working with Arden Arcade Rotary on this community project, being funded from their community grant funds (not district funds).  We will probably have one more workday to finish the sides and top of the enclosure, but the tops haven’t been fabricated yet so not sure when that will be.
In the meantime, 25 year old Cowboy Sparkles (as the endangered Desert Tortoise is named for the time being until there is a vote for his final name) will continue to live in the portable home at Effie Yeaw. (Vicky Boatwright)
