On this special day, August 9th, 2022, we were honored to have District Governor Karen Cendro visit our Club to tell us about her exciting plans for our new Rotary Year. The District's Theme this year is "Serve It Up" and speaks to fulfilling basic needs - food, water, shelter. Club members brought canned goods for the Food Bank, which abundantly filled one table in our meeting room at the Old Spaghetti Factory. Please click on "read more" for more information.....

Assistant Governor and District Governor Nominee Steve Turner introduced District Governor Karen Cendro. Steve mentioned that his Club, Arden Arcade and the Carmichael Club partnered up on a purchase of a community van some time ago which is a project which is dear to his heart. He said that Mike Cendro was a Rotarian for a number of years before he brought his wife Karen to a Rotary International Convention in Cambodia. Karen saw the potential that Rotary has for helping to feed the world and she was hooked and became a Rotarian herself.
Karen took the microphone and explained that the District's theme this year is "GIVE IT UP" - alluding to the enhancement of basic services after our  COVID experiences. We will focus on food, water and shelter issues - that is why Karen asked our members to bring cans of food to the meeting which used to feed needy senior citizens. There is 20% food insecurity now and we need to repurpose food. Karen suggested that Rotarians get on the board of directors of food banks, endeavor to bring repurposed food to people - perhaps to participate in community gardens and repurpose excess food. On the District level, a problem is that food organizations are not talking to each other effectively to coordinate to help food problems.
Karen showed us a very nice video of Rotary President Jennifer Jones who explained Rotary International's Theme for this year - "Imagine".
Now D.G. Cendro took care of two pleasant duties - one was to induct our new member, Dr. Margaret Olebe - see our special story on front page in this bulletin and giving the "Serve it Up" award (a special apron with the "Serve It Up" logo on it) to the one who has been our best and most reliable food provider for our Club. We all appreciate the many years during which Jeff Thompson orchestrated the kitchen at our crab feeds, and many other events where food was involved. Congratulations Jeff!
Now it was our Club's opportunity to show our appreciation of Karen's visit. So - as it is our tradition for which we are famous, we gave a nice fine Stetson hat to Karen, and one bottle each of fine wine to Assistant Governor Steve Turner and to D.G. first man, Mike Cendro. It was a heart warming and fun meeting! Some more pics below:
