Getting to know Him - Paul DeGuerre
I was born on November 1st, 1951 in San Francisco. A preemie, 3 pounds 1 1/2 ounces’ at seven months old, I’m still kicking at 70 years old. I grew up in South San Francisco and Concord, California. I graduated from Concord High School in 1969. I ran cross country, wrestled and was a pole vaulter on the high school team.
I moved to Sacramento 1972 to attend college. I graduated from CSUS Sacramento in 1975. I worked for Sears while attending college and opened the Sunrise Mall store in the fall of 1972. I met my wife Kathy there and married her in May 1st. 1976. I married into a large family of 10 children, so life has been a lot of fun ever since. I have two sisters, Christine and Nancy. I'm the oldest. Kathy and I have three children, Danielle. Nick. and Megan. We now have four grandchildren. My wife Kathy is in Melbourne, Australia, helping with our new granddaughter who was born on February 14th, 2022. She is there until early next month.
My work career began in retail. I was in retail management until 1955 when I made a career change and went to telecommunications. I moved to Overland Park, Kansas in 1996 to work for Sprint.  I moved back to California in December of 2000. I worked for PacWest Telecom in Stockton as a senior engineer as a work planning engineer for 10 years, I left them and went to work for Tele Pacific Communications as a project engineer. I retired in January 2014 at the age of 62. I was very bored being retired. And. Went to work again for O'Reilly auto parts as a member of management until July of last year. Now I am fully retired, but I am looking for a part time gig two days a week. That's my simple life in a nutshell.
It's been great to join Rotary recently and I am enjoying being at the meetings and am planning to be a good member forever.
