UPCOMING EVENTS
Hi Carmichael Rotarians!  Do you want to sign up for the monthly food distribution for the San Juan School District?

I sign up for the setup and food bagging jobs every month but there are several other jobs throughout the day if you're interested.  Jay and I have been doing this monthly for over a year and really enjoy it, and I know a few other Carmichael Rotarians have participated in the past.  If you sign up, be sure to wear your Carmichael Rotary hat or shirt to advertise our organization (they encourage it).

Contact Vicky Boatwright if you want to join in on the fun.
Please contact President George Abraham to find out who to contact to volunteer in the above projects.....they need your help!

Uganda Water Wells Projects

At another very cordial meeting with East Sacramento on January 30th, we had our own famous member, Richard Olebe, tell us about water projects in Uganda. Above (left) Richard is pictured with East Sacramento's President Jim Fritsche (above right). Jim gave us another impressive lesson in accounting during his Vocational minute.
It's obvious that Richard has become an expert on water projects in Uganda. He recently traveled on a Rotary tour of water projects there and gave a nice PowerPoint presentation which you can see by clicking on "Read More" below and is produced in it's entirety. One slide says:
There were parallel projects with 1.8 million (USD) and $200,000 from Rotary Clubs in Uganda and from District 5180, 100 K each. How impressive is that - our own District 5180!
Richard also reported that our own project in Lyowla is functioning well in spite of a tree falling on one well and putting it out of commission for a short period. Richard emphasized that sustainability is very important and that there are plans for the government to take on overseeing various other projects after completion.

TO PROMOTE LITERACY
During the incumbency of  President David Thorman,(2013-14) it was decided that instead of giving a particular gift, ie coffee mug, pen etc. to honor our guest speaker each week, we would simply donate a book to the Carmichael Library. So below are many of the books that we have donated in honor of recent speakers.
It is the "gift that keeps of giving" because those who will check out these books from the library will derive many hours of pleasure for years to come, and it enhances learning and literacy. The books are chosen by Jenell Heimbach, Branch Supervisor, Carmichael Library, subsidiary of the Sacramento Public Library. As of November 2023, we have donated upwards of 500 books!
