President Dick Bauer opened the 18th Rotary meeting (again in Zoom format)
"Thought designee" was esteemed President-Elect Richard Olebewho, after the "Pledge of Allegiance", and the "4 Way Test" and gave the following short but important "Thought for the Day":
THE CARMICHAEL CLUB HAS FOUND A NEW MEETING LOCATION
Beginning Tuesday Jan. 4, 2022 we will be meeting in person at the Stage 76 Kitchen and Bar at 7600 Fair Oaks Blvd., near the Manzanita split, located at the corner of Fair Oaks Blvd and Wayside Lane. For those who have been in the Club awhile, we used to meet at this restaurant when it was called the Capri.
We will be served a buffet and the cost will be $25 including tax and tip. Because we must pay for a minimum of 15 guests and because the restaurant needs to know ahead of time how many attendees we will have, we are reverting to the system in use prior to Covid. All members will be charged $25 a week unless they notify Vicky by 8 Pm the Sunday before the meeting .
I think you will find the food and venue to be excellent.
We will continue to hold hybrid meetings for those members who wish to attend on Zoom;
TIP: The restaurant has a happy hour from 3-6 PM, so if you order your drink before 6 PM you could save a few dollars. Drinks are not included in the meal price.
FUTURE DATES
DECEMBER 7 - Afghanistan - Habib Rahmani
DECEMBER 14 - Christmas Party - Dave and Dana's
JANUARY 4 - In person meeting and the Stage 76 Kitchen
Getting to Know Him - Heine Roikjer
Born in Copenhagen, 55 years ago, his mother was a nurse and father a photographer. His father decided that he liked men and went to live with his future husband.Heine’s mother died when he was 13 and he went to live with his two male parents- two fathers so to speak. Heine says he had a great upbringing with them. At 18, he got a job from his father’s husband who worked in the clothing industry. He participated in the opening of 20 stores. Then for 5 years, he worked in interior design for another company and in their flower shop. He met great people dealing with high end restaurants. Heine said that sometimes he got paid with really good food. Heine took off to Saudia Arabia. He married his first wife who gave him a son and a daughter and worked for IKEA as an interior decorator. He divorced after 7 years and met his wonderful new wife, a dentist, Ramouna. Heine and Ramouna then traveled to California working with IKEA after a short stint in So.Cal, he moved to Sacramento. It was a good 13 years with IKEA, but he has retired from there and opened a small grocery supermarket (GroceryOutlet, 5025 Marconi Ave. in Carmichael) and in spite of the long hours and hard work, he loves his job and the wonderful people of Carmichael. He joined the West Sacramento Rotary Club in 2007 or 2008 and became it’s President in 2015. He and Romouna had the great experience of going to Rome and being blessed by the Pope in recognition of Rotary’s good works around the world. Heine and Ramouna recently joined our Carmichael Club and are looking forward to more wonderful Rotary adventures.
VITALENT (Blood Source) - Virginia Wolfe
Wewere honored to have (through Zoom), Virginia Wolfe with us today who gave a great slide show about the transition for Blood Source to a national organization called Vitalent. She has been a blood recipient, blood drive coordinator, editor, writer, community professional, spokesperson, and presenter for the importance of giving blood. She started with a video about a life saving story of Lisa who suffered electrical burns over most of her body and needed blood infusions for many, many years and it saved her life. It was mentioned that one donation of blood will save up to three lives.
I have below, many of the slides presented which I believe tells the story of Vitalent very well:
At the end of Virginia's presentation, President Dick Bauer surprised her ( pleasantly) by announcing that a book will be donated, in her honor, to the Carmichael Public Library (subsidiary of the Sacramento Public Library)

Donations as of 10-20-2021
During the incumbency of President David Thorman, (2013-14) it was decided that instead of giving a particular gift, ie coffee mug, pen etc. to honor our guest speaker each week, we would simply donate a book to the Carmichael Library. So below are many of the books that we have donated in honor of recent speakers.
It is the "gift that keeps of giving" because those who will check out these books from the library will derive many hours of pleasure for years to come, and it enhances learning and literacy. The books are chosen byBertaBoegel, Branch Supervisor, Carmichael Library, subsidiary of the Sacramento Public Library.
rboegel@saclibrary.org
Due to the quantity of books donated as of 1-5-2021 (NEARING 400), I have noted only the last 20 or so. The prior tabulations of books donated have been archived and will be in the memory of the Carmichael Club in Club Runner.
