♦ THE CARMICHAEL TIMES PUBLISHES VICKY BOATWRIGHT'S HISTORIC ELECTION AS ROTARY PRESIDENT:
CALENDAR OF CLUB EVENTS
► AUGUST 6 - COUNSEL ON LEGISLATION - Bob Deering
Subject: Recent RI Council on Legislation
Past District Governor Bob Deering (2012-13) represented District 5180 at the tri-annual Council on Legislation. Every three years a representative from district throughout the Rotary world meets to review, discuss and vote on proposed rule changes.
PDG Bob will update us on the process of being selected to represent District 5180 and what was enacted as changes to the way Rotary does business.
This is anticipated to be a very informative program.
► AUGUST 13 -
Rachael Taylor is the Executive Director of the Carmichael Improvement District. The organization was formed in 2016 by property owners along commercial Fair Oaks Blvd. The CID works every day to keep our community safe and clean and attract businesses and customers to our area. The district strives to lead the transformation of Carmichael to a prosperous, engaged, and desirable community.
► AUGUST 20 - MEMBERSHIP AND CLUB DEVELOPMENT - Michael Reinero
As in keeping with President Vicky's fun year, the Club had a "day off" from Rotary work and just had fun at a Social and Game night at Mark and Carol Beil's estate and Disk Golf Course. There, Master Chef Jeff Thompson and crew practically outdid themselves for a second week in a row with great food and beverages. 21 members and 9 guests showed up for the festivities. Some played golf - one highlight match was Mark who naturally is expert at his own course and natural athlete Ed Bunting. I am told that Ed practically got a "hole in one" with a shot that swept around a tree and gently settled into the hole. I am not sure who won - but it was a close game. I was fortunate to have my brother in law, Dennis Percy visiting from Qatar (middle-east) and he enjoyed the party. Other guests were Tom Thompson, Maxine Grybas, Dana Newell, Mo McBride, Tara Abraham, Nan Roe and, of course, our great host Carol Beil. I would be remiss if I didn't mention that their resident land tortoise, Yoda made quite a hit at the party! Pictures are below:

A big "thank you" goes out to hosts Mark and Carol Beil, sorry I have no photos of them at the event - they were too busy buzzing around!

Yourbulletin editor just couldn’t help bringing to your notice the relevance of the last six “Book Donations” by Branch Supervisor, Berta Boegel given “in honor of” our recent keynote speakers to the Carmichael Library (Sacramento Public Library) at our Club meetings. Note that Berta has fined tuned the speakers topic to the subject of the book! They are below:
Missy McCall, who talked about “Human Trafficking”, book donated in her name: Under theBirch Tree: A Memoir of Discovering Connections and Finding a Home by Nancy Chadwick.
Mark Urban, who talked about a trip to Ethiopia, book donated in his name: The Pharaoh’sTreasure: The Origin of Paper and the Rise of Western Civilization by John Gaudet.
Dr. Beverly Wesner-Hoen, who talked about being a part of Rotary Fellowship, book donated Why To Kill a Mockingbird Matters: What Harper Lee’s Book and Iconic American Film Mean to Us Today by Tom Santopietro
Doug Haaland, who talked about his trip to Israel, book donated in his name: Shaya: An Odysseyof Food, My Journey Back to Israel by Alon Shaya.
and 6. Bill Baxter and Rich Plath, who talked about “Fly Fishing” – get this – “On the Fly”: HoboLiterature and Songs 1879-1941 ed. By Iain Mcintyre. How appropriate….
During the incumbency of President David Thorman,(2013-14) it was decided that instead of giving a particular gift, ie coffee mug, pen etc. to honor our guest speaker each week, we would simply donate a book to the Carmichael Library. So below are some of the books that we have donated in honor of recent speakers.
It is the "gift that keeps of giving" because those who will check out these books from the library will derive many hours of pleasure for years to come, and it enhances learning and literacy. The books are chosen byBertaBoegel, Branch Supervisor, Carmichael Library, subsidiary of the Sacramento Public Library.

As of June 26, 2017, we have purchased nearly 160 titles in honor of our speakers! Because of the large number of books, we are not showing them all at this time.
