so our new President Greg Herrera opened the 1st meeting of the Carmichael Club for the 2018-2019 Rotary Year. After the "pledge" - which he led - and carrying over from our late (but still alive) President Dick Bauer , he enforced the mandatory reading of the "Four-way Test" and called upon Alan Gallaway, resident Jokester who told a joke that everyone gave a substantial laugh to, but it just didn't make the stringent standards of the Bulletin "oversight" committee so is not published here. President Herrera went on to thank the Club for their confidence in him by electing him President. He said he liked the Club from the very first day that he had been invited to a meeting - the members are good friendly people. He mentioned that Rotary has a very good theme for this year, "BE THE INSPIRATION" and he gave a special pin to all the members with a special inscription.
Greg offered a few thoughts about our theme:
Carmichael Rotary is good for Carmichael and good for the world.
We are an organization of both local and international leaders.
We meet regularly, get to know one another, form friendships,
and through that, we are able to get things done in our community and globally.
As they say in Hawaii: We are in this canoe together. Everyone has a paddle. Everyone has a job. To paraphrase JFK, "Don't ask what this club can do for you, but what you can do for this Club. President Herrera then introduced the leadership for 2018-2018:
As you can see (above) President Herrera outlined the various leadership and their positions. With a quality group like this how can we miss?
In addition, President Herrera mentioned many of the projects that we will be involved with this year and announced that the Carmichael Chamber of Commerce is going to have a 70th Anniversary Meeting and they have mentioned that they would like to honor the Carmichael Rotary for 14 years of association. It will be on Tuesday, July 24th, 11:30-1 pm. Can we get a group together to go? Also he announced that there were two important guests at the meeting, Jim and Diana Cralle from the Fair Oaks Club and they have an important announcement that the Fair Oaks Club is putting on a "Nite at the Races" on August 4th 2018 (brochure below) and that Jim is running for Honorary Mayor of Fair Oaks. It should be fun, you will get to know your neighboring Rotarians and you will help Jim become "Mayor".
A thorn between two roses: Guest Diana Cralle, President Greg Herrera, and Mayoral Candidate Jim Cralle
N ow we were very fortunate to have Vicky Boatwright with us and for her to use her considerable positive influence for the production of "Happy Fines". President Greg Herrera's dog died and Greg told us of the "bittersweet" experience as he was able to spend his pet's last hours with him, making him comfortable etc - for this he RANG THE BELL!; Rich Plath also became a BELL RINGER because he is happily looking forward to the year ahead: Stan Roe RANG THE BELL because he had a recent not too significant birthday and remembered when he was a part of Rotoplast in Chili and became enamored about Rotary; Walter Malhoski RANG THE BELL because all things are going good and we don't owe R.I. a cent and his blood tests have turned out good; David Thorman RANG THE BELL because this day, July 17, 2018 is his 80th birthday!; Alan Gallaway followed and RANG THE BELL just to follow the others; Troy Drennon put in $$ because his daughter had successful surgery on May 25th (a bladder issue) and now is fine; Tyler Jennings just is happy with and proud of the Club; Karen Munsterman contributed because she is proud to be a Carmichael Rotarian and just got her permanent "Blue Badge"; Jay Boatwright put in $50 because he went water skiing recently and was able to come upright on the skis (at his advanced age!); Vicky Boatwright is proud to become (in one year) Carmichaels 1st woman president.
WE COLLECTED $700+ for our Club!

During the incumbency of President David Thorman,(2013-14) it was decided that instead of giving a particular gift, ie coffee mug, pen etc. to honor our guest speaker each week, we would simply donate a book to the Carmichael Library. So below are some of the books that we have donated in honor of recent speakers.
It is the "gift that keeps of giving" because those who will check out these books from the library will derive many hours of pleasure for years to come, and it enhances learning and literacy. The books are chosen byBertaBoegel, Branch Supervisor, Carmichael Library, subsidiary of the Sacramento Public Library.
