So it came to pass that we had our annual fall picnic in the spacious diggings of Carol and Mark Beil’s garden estate. At their entrance, we were greeted by “Yoda”, their usually friendly land tortoise who was sleepily contemplating hibernation and the “potluck” was filled with a plethora of different kinds of foods, beer and wine. Many of our members brought spouses, family and guests. It seems that the Beil’s outdoor areas have improved year by year with special scenic mini-areas and a professional 9 hole frisbee golf course. Pics below:
The official tenth meeting of the 2018-2019Y Rotary Year was opened by President Greg Herrera after the Fly Fishing demonstration and Pres. Greg did ring the Bell to open the meeting. Then Chuck McBride gave the"Thought" for the day:
" If you want to make enemies, try to change something".

JOKE OF THE DAY
After a long discussion with the censorship committee of this publication.
It was decided not to publish President Greg Herrera's joke.
It was a good try and close to achieving our high standards, but
it involved the mistaking of a suppository with a hearing aid.
PRESIDENT GREG HERRERA BEGAN THE MEETING OUTSIDE WITHOUT RINGING THE SACRED BELL. BILL BAXTER BEGAN THE FLY-ROD DEMONSTRATION BY EXPLAINING ABUT THE FLIES—THE TYPES, HOW THEY HATCH AND MATURE AND BECOME BAIT. HE PASSED AROUND VARIOUS HAND MADE FLIES WHICH REPLICATE THOSE IN NATURE. RICH PLATH THEN DEMONSTRATED THE USE OF VARIOUS TYPES OF RODS AND REELS HOW AND WHEN TO USE THEM. IT WAS OBVIOUS THAT BOTH RICH AND BILL ARE EXPERT FLY FISHERMAN AND GREATLY ENJOY THEIR HOBBY.
WE THEN WENT INSIDE AND PRES. GREG FINALLY RANG THE BELL TO BEGIN THE MEETING.
N ow Vicky Boatwright gave another "command" performance as elicitation master of "Happy Thoughts":
Alan Gallaway gave something for his Ecuador Trip; Bill Baxter said something which was complimentary about Alan – and is happy to be here; George Abraham was happy to have his two guests here, also our Interact Club is starting all over - good news; Mark Beil thanked all those who contributed to the Rotary BBQ; Bill Donnoe talked about his trip to Death Valley where the temperature was 114 degrees;.; Chuck McBride BONGED THE GONG because he just acquired an new great grandson; Stan Rose thanked Mark for having the BBQ at their home;. RAFFLE
THE fact that we now have in $1000 in the kitty, and that I Guess that Chuck McBride would appreciate winning the money and getting the Ace of Spades, but, alas, he just got the 8 of Diamonds and a nice bottle from the Club's secret wine cellar ....He looked like he was happy.
During the incumbency of President David Thorman,(2013-14) it was decided that instead of giving a particular gift, ie coffee mug, pen etc. to honor our guest speaker each week, we would simply donate a book to the Carmichael Library. So below are some of the books that we have donated in honor of recent speakers.
It is the "gift that keeps of giving" because those who will check out these books from the library will derive many hours of pleasure for years to come, and it enhances learning and literacy. The books are chosen byBertaBoegel, Branch Supervisor, Carmichael Library, subsidiary of the Sacramento Public Library.

As of June 26, 2017, we have purchased nearly 160 titles in honor of our speakers! Because of the large number of books, we are not showing them all at this time.
