President Dick Bauer opened the 6th Rotary meeting of the 2021-2022.
Esteemed Member Bill Baxter gave the pledge and read the 4 Way test and instead of the "Thought for the Day"
asked everyone for a moment of silence for plight of the people of Afghanistan......
Chuckle for the day:(brought to you by Geronimo!)
I don't know what the right answer for a question in the cartoon is but you can take your guess?

LATE BREAKING NEWS FROM DISTRICT GOVERNOR DESIREE WILSON:
I just realized I never sent the link to the fundraising page for my End Polio Now bike ride in Tucson in November, in case any of your members are interested in supporting the eradication of polio in this way.
We recently found out Tyler has cancer. The news literally no one wants to hear, especially at 40 with two young children. Then the words that it's an aggressive cancer that shows up in otherwise healthy young people by the Dr probably broke us more. I constantly ask why him. Someone so kind and giving. If you know Tyler, you love him. We are staying positive in the storm but we sure do have our moments and days. As we navigate this journey and wait on more tests to tell us what stage he is and our plan, we ask for everyone to please pray or send good vibes for us and our family. We have already had such an abundance of support that it's been so helpful and such a huge blessing to have such amazing family and friends who are uplifting us on our dark days. Hug your loved ones, don't sweat the small stuff and the only thing that truly matters is our loved ones and our health. Also, Be kind to people, you never know what battle they are fighting. -Logan (wife)
We have an opportunity to join with others to help with Effie Yeaw's Habitat Restoration native planting
project to dig holes, install cages, mulch and plant native plants on Saturday, Nov. 6.
Let Vicky Boatwright know if you're interested in volunteering.
UP-COMIMG SPEAKERS/EVENTS
AUGUST 24:CLIMATE REALITY - KARI BAUER
AUGUST 31: "ZOOMING THROUGH COLLEGE" TARA ABRAHAM
SEPTEMBER 7: DARK
SEPTEMBER 14: STATE WATER BOARD - ALEX MACDONALD
We had an interesting experience dealing with a partial "live" and a partial "zoom" meeting and I thought that the "zoom" members got the best of the meeting. This was because our speaker, Susan Statti, Strategic Account Advisor for SMUD, was also on "zoom" and the live audience could hear her and see her on their home screens, but the very nice slide show that was on the screen was too small for the "live" room, Such is what our resident genius IT person, Geronimo had to deal with. Susan gave us an update on SMUD and a new proposal which included rate changes and other changes which has been recently voted for by their Board. In the interests of clarity, I have decided to just reproduce the informational letter/flyer (below) about their proposal for their users. It is self explanatory.
HAPPY THOUGHTS
Presenting the Happy Thoughtson this special day, Geronimo who is auditioning for the "Happy Fine Advisor position" started the session. Stan Roe happily announced that it was his 53rd wedding anniversary and so it was worth a RINGING OF THE BELL; Dick Bauer said something about the Kings playing the Celtics in the playoffs, but what was worth the BONGING OF THE GONG was that his granddaughter got a lead role in a Shakespeare play in Monterey; Apparently, Kari Bauer agreed with Dick because she also BONGED THE GONG from "Zoom-land".
BELL RINGERS
BILL BAXTER; DICK BAUER; MARK BEIL; ED BUNTING; GREG HERRERA; VINCE IOSSO (2); TONY MARQUES; KAREN MUNSTERMAN; RICH PLATH; STAN ROE
BONG GONGERS
DICK BAUER (2); KARI BAUER; MARK BEIL; ED BUNTING; WALTER MALHOSKI; STAN ROE; RAMOUNA ROIKJER
EXPLANATION: A BELL RINGER IS SOMEONE WHO DONATES $100 TO THE CLUB IN A GIVEN YEAR; A GONG BONGER IS ONE WHO DONATES AN ADDITIONAL $100 TO EITHER THE CLUB OR R.I. FOUNDATION (FOR GENERAL OR SPECIFIC PURPOSE)
DRAWING
Sowe had another drawing today. Stan Roe was the lucky enough to have the winning ticket but did not draw the Ace of Spades. So, he got the consolation prize of a bottle of wine,He happily accepted his gift.
During the incumbency of President David Thorman, (2013-14) it was decided that instead of giving a particular gift, ie coffee mug, pen etc. to honor our guest speaker each week, we would simply donate a book to the Carmichael Library. So below are many of the books that we have donated in honor of recent speakers.
It is the "gift that keeps of giving" because those who will check out these books from the library will derive many hours of pleasure for years to come, and it enhances learning and literacy. The books are chosen byBertaBoegel, Branch Supervisor, Carmichael Library, subsidiary of the Sacramento Public Library.
rboegel@saclibrary.org
Due to the quantity of books donated as of 1-5-2021 (PASSING 300), I have noted only the last 20 or so. The prior tabulations of books donated have been archived and will be in the memory of the Carmichael Club in Club Runner.
