With roots in Connecticut and New York, Rod has guided non-profit organizations across the United States, raising over $50 million on behalf of aging adults, at-risk children and seniors, human trafficking victims, homeless veterans and nature conservation and environmental protection causes.
Rod embraces the leadership roles he has been entrusted with at N&R Publications and the Sacramento News & Review; providing storytelling, marketing, branding and publicity for environmental, human services and non-profit causes nationwide.
A professional public speaker, Rod produced a 100 year-anniversary video for the Rotary Club of Jackson, Michigan view at:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9PGK2v6uU4g He inspires audiences on topics ranging from natural and local history to future reality, with special emphasis on aging adult services, inter-generational trends, social media, civic leadership, local art, the climate crisis, and the environment.
An Eagle Scout and proud father of two adult children, Rod enjoys serving the local community and equipping people from each generation for success.  As a Rotarian, Rod has crafted a strategic plan for The Rotary Club of Jackson, Michigan http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9PGK2v=9PGK2v6uU4g

Rod started with a slide entitled Future Breathe (above). He wanted however to tell us about the immense respect he has for Rotary. He loves Rotary’s “Four Way Test” and asked someone to define“ Good Will”, well it is what Rotary does and believes in, good will and world peace, connections with others throughout the world – this is what Rotary does greatest.

Rod says there is a lot of opinions going around about the science of “Climate Change”. Whose opinion do you trust? Well Rod trusts N.A.S.A. and there is a lot of information on their website. Rod showed a chart about the rising of the oceans from 1995-2020 and just like the stock market – it only goes up (this was a little joke for Troy Drennon who is a financial advisor).
There has been a co2 explosion in the last 10 years. Look on the N.A.S.A. website.
Now Rod produced a slide which talked about the abundant plastic products that have been put into our landfills and our oceans. He mentioned 3 documentaries which are available and they are described as the Anthroposcene Trilogy. He got back to us after the meeting with two links you can use to see trailers of the films. Rod says that when they are available, he would be happy to come back to our Club and be the host – showing the movies to us in their entirety. The links are:

What can we do to help?
There is hope. We all can make a difference. Rod mentioned a book, Drawdown by Paul Hawken on ways to reduce global warming – (picture left)
Other ways to help, among these are: Plant trees – Inspiring a Reforestation Revolution, Reduce Food Waste, Alternative Cement (using cement substitutes) and Wind Turbines.

After a lively Q & A session, President Dave proudly informed Speaker Rod that a book will be donated, in his honor, to the Carmichael Library (Subsidiary of the Sacramento Public Library.) Rod was touched by the gesture, saying that he appreciates fostering education.

HAPPY FINES

It was not a very productive "Happy Thoughts" session folks. George Abraham donated only $10 but we could not hear him anyway; Katha Danz was happy that she got new window coverings for our dining room window out to the patio and donated 1 big A ($20); Mark Beil bragged about his parents who had a combined 90 year birthday, and the family attended with some trepidation because of Covid-19 - he put in another $10. We are going to have to be more generous in the future (do as I say, not as I do.)

Donations as of 8-4-2020
During the incumbency of  President David Thorman,(2013-14) it was decided that instead of giving a particular gift, ie coffee mug, pen etc. to honor our guest speaker each week, we would simply donate a book to the Carmichael Library. So below are many of the books that we have donated in honor of recent speakers.
It is the "gift that keeps of giving" because those who will check out these books from the library will derive many hours of pleasure for years to come, and it enhances learning and literacy. The books are chosen by Berta Boegel, Branch Supervisor, Carmichael Library, subsidiary of the Sacramento Public Library
rboegel@saclibrary.org
Due to the quantity of books donated as of 8-4-2020 (over 200), I have noted only the last 16 or so. The prior tabulations of books donated have been archived and will be in the memory of the Carmichael Club in Club Runner.
