♦ President Vicky is looking for someone to host our "Holiday Party" on maybe Tuesday, December 12th. Will anyone volunteer their home?
♦ Holiday Baskets: Rich Plath
"We already are working with the San Juan Unified School District for our 2019 program. We enjoy the strong support of the Superintendent, Kent Kern and staff in charge of serving students who need support urgently. Our program is unique in that we serve many student families in our community who need the help the most.
It is important that we get an early count of those in our club who will help with home deliveries and bulk deliveries to the district office for further distribution. We will be doing our home deliveries Wednesday morning, December 18. We need help delivering food baskets to the district, also on Wednesday.
Another important part of our food program is helping assemble the food baskets on Monday, December 16 and Tuesday, December 17. We may be needed to help the district further distribute our baskets on Thursday, December 19.
My request is that each member communicate via e-mail or otherwise how he or she will help the week of December 16-19. An important aspect of our program has been our success recruiting family and friends. We would appreciate a tally of these other helpers as well. It is important to our club's reputation that we have good participation and that we fulfill the commitment we make to the school district. Please let me know by October 1."
♦ Dick Bauer sent around sign up sheet for those who want to physically help out for few hours with the project (painting walls etc.) Let him know if you want to volunteer to do some light work for a few hours on November 2nd and/or 3rd.

Jay Sedlak introduced Jack Frost (pictured left). Jack has served Sacramento in many ways over the years. As Director of the Community Home Energy Project (CHERP) and did a retrofit on his home and reduced is gas and electric bill by 87% and qualified for nearly $15,000 in combined rebates from SMUD and PG&E including a 30% federal tax credit for solar! (How did he do that?)Jack is a 42-Year Mortgage Banking and Real Estate veteran who sold his Mortgage Bank Co. (a Fortune 500 Company) in 1993 and sold his mortgage servicing portfolio covering 7-Western States to Mellon Bank in 1995. Jack has or is serving on numerous Boards like the Sacramento Taxpayers Association, Latino Development Group, the Citrus Heights Chamber of Commerce and Commissioner on the Sacramento Human Rights Fair Commission and the Sacramento Habitat for Humanity. Jack was the “visionary” for Federal Legislation to create a “National Umbilical Cord Blood Stem Cell Bank Network” passed by congress in 2005.
As if the above is not enough, Jack’s current claim to fame is to be married to Sue Frost, the Sacramento County Supervisor for District 4.
Jack started out by saying that he had retired from his many activities outlined above and had nothing to do but play golf which he admits, he wasn’t very good at. So he decided to cause some trouble and fell into advocating for small businesses. Did we know that over 50% of small businesses in California are owned by minorities? Yet their voting record doesn’t seem to reflect their true interests. There is something wrong in California. Homelessness is rampant. Taxes are going up and the funds are not going to the renovation of roads. Jack says both political parties are to blame.
So Jack has founded “PRO SMALL BIZ CA”. The idea is to target business owners and get the message out that will be beneficial for them. To get them involved by:
Helping employers and employee to vote for their interests. A newsletter will be sent out with the politician’s voting record – a report card. Jack mentioned an App that you will be able to get which will get you informed of your representative’s votes.
Taking Action by knowing what you are paying for. The Bottom Line will be sent to you in Pro Small Biz’s newsletter. Jack sent around a sign up for his newsletter or you can go to www.ProSmallBizCA.org to join.
having Results: To have a score card and see how things are improving. Jack intends that his organization will create an “army” of followers who will eventually reach thousands of people who will be energized to give feedback to legislators and will effect change for the better for small businesses
President Vicky, in discharging one of her important duties, informed Jack, that a book will be donated, in his honor, to the Carmichael Library (Sacramento Public Library).

Happy fines are now early as I have mentioned and Chuck McBride happened to be available again:
Rich Plath BONGED THE GONG in celebration of catching that remarkable 32 oz trout! Very understandable! Vicky Boatwright also BONGED THE GONG, but she did it to use her matching points; Walter Malhoski bragged that his doctor doesn't want to see him for 2 (two) months and his daughter is getting married; Greg Herrera saw "Hamilton" and was impressed with the play and then said something about sex (censored); Alan Gallaway bragged that Stanford beat Oregon State and put in a big $20 for that; Troy Drennon said his son has just had hernia surgery and almost immediately has been "jumping" on the couch; Chuck McBride sold his old truck and now has bought a new expensive GMC one - he should ring the bell or bong the gong or something! Two Bong Gongers.....

Yourbulletin editor just couldn’t help bringing to your notice the relevance of the last six “Book Donations” by Branch Supervisor, Berta Boegel given “in honor of” our recent keynote speakers to the Carmichael Library (Sacramento Public Library) at our Club meetings. Note that Berta has fined tuned the speakers topic to the subject of the book! They are below:
Missy McCall, who talked about “Human Trafficking”, book donated in her name: Under theBirch Tree: A Memoir of Discovering Connections and Finding a Home by Nancy Chadwick.
Mark Urban, who talked about a trip to Ethiopia, book donated in his name: The Pharaoh’sTreasure: The Origin of Paper and the Rise of Western Civilization by John Gaudet.
Dr. Beverly Wesner-Hoen, who talked about being a part of Rotary Fellowship, book donated Why To Kill a Mockingbird Matters: What Harper Lee’s Book and Iconic American Film Mean to Us Today by Tom Santopietro
Doug Haaland, who talked about his trip to Israel, book donated in his name: Shaya: An Odysseyof Food, My Journey Back to Israel by Alon Shaya.
and 6. Bill Baxter and Rich Plath, who talked about “Fly Fishing” – get this – “On the Fly”: HoboLiterature and Songs 1879-1941 ed. By Iain Mcintyre. How appropriate….
During the incumbency of President David Thorman,(2013-14) it was decided that instead of giving a particular gift, ie coffee mug, pen etc. to honor our guest speaker each week, we would simply donate a book to the Carmichael Library. So below are some of the books that we have donated in honor of recent speakers.
It is the "gift that keeps of giving" because those who will check out these books from the library will derive many hours of pleasure for years to come, and it enhances learning and literacy. The books are chosen byBertaBoegel, Branch Supervisor, Carmichael Library, subsidiary of the Sacramento Public Library.

As of June 26, 2017, we have purchased nearly 160 titles in honor of our speakers! Because of the large number of books, we are not showing them all at this time.
