WE ARE REAL PEOPLE!
So it came to pass that Carmichael Rotary made history on the 27th of October, 2020 when for the first time in six months, a real live “in person” meeting was enjoyed in the back yard of our brave hosts, Mark and Carol Beil. There were 17 members and two guests (Rod Malloy and aforementioned Carol Beil) in attendance. Most of us enjoyed sandwiches from Panera’s restaurant, with wine and beer provided. It was great to see “real people” rather than just video on the Zoom format.
All present wore masks and kept their appropriate distances from one another.
Fellowship was the order of the evening except a few loose ends of business was conducted by Past President Vicky Boatwright who honored members of her Board for their service in her year. She also presented gifts to a few others present who were honored for their contribution.
Rotary International Director Chuck McBride gave us a report on Club giving and Polio+:
"The Rotary Club of Carmichael was chartered June 10 , 1948. In its 71 year history , it has had a great history of doing good, being first, and having a great time.
The 2019 20  year will be remembered as one of challenges and significant  first for the club. Carmichael Rotary elected its first female President; we were honored by Rotary International as a 100% Paul Harris Fellow Club, a one time award achieved by only a few cubs around the world, and being one of the first clubs in District 5180 to have virtual meetings .
Under President Vicky and with Foundation Chair Chuck McBride’s effort, the club donated some $ 5,388. 00 in the Change for Change pickle Jar for Polio Plus,  and another $ 12,000.00 to The Rotary Foundation.
Chuck had some awards left over from last year so he, with the help of PP Vicky honored two great Rotarians who were with us this night.   Former member and a great Honorary member Jack Shearer donated $ 1000.00 to Polio Plus and  asked that the club honor a member of the Club, so we did and the membership selected our own great Rotarian Dr. Stan Roe !  Congratulations Stan, and a big thank you to Jack Shearer.  Next Chuck awarded our own "Has Been" Vicky Boatwright with not one but two PHF’s making her a PHF +  7. Way to go girl ! "
In closing, Chuck thanked the membership for their financial support and effort in giving to the Polio Plus effort and to the Rotary Foundation.
After a short "thank you for coming" and a great "thank you" to hosts Mark and Carol Beil by President David Thorman, the meeting was adjourned.

Since we have missed so many birthdays in the last (virtual) six months, our Club provided a cake to all of us who had a forgotten birthday...

NEXT WEEK'S SPEAKER
♦ NOVEMBER 3: Making Your Competition Irrevelant - Brian Gladden
(Appropriate for Election Day - be sure to Vote!)

Donations as of 10-15-2020
During the incumbency of  President David Thorman,(2013-14) it was decided that instead of giving a particular gift, ie coffee mug, pen etc. to honor our guest speaker each week, we would simply donate a book to the Carmichael Library. So below are many of the books that we have donated in honor of recent speakers.
It is the "gift that keeps of giving" because those who will check out these books from the library will derive many hours of pleasure for years to come, and it enhances learning and literacy. The books are chosen by Berta Boegel, Branch Supervisor, Carmichael Library, subsidiary of the Sacramento Public Library
rboegel@saclibrary.org
Due to the quantity of books donated as of 10-16-2020 (over 200), I have noted only the last 16 or so. The prior tabulations of books donated have been archived and will be in the memory of the Carmichael Club in Club Runner.
