Getting to know him - George Abraham
I was born in the southern Indian state of Kerala. My father was a civil engineer who worked on hydroelectric projects. My mother was a homemaker with a degree in science. With my dad working in remote areas having no local schools, my younger brother and I were sent to a boarding school run by the Catholic church at an early age. Later, my dad took a job in Kuwait and we stayed with our grandparents until college. I came to know Rotary when I won an academic award from the Rotary Club of Kottayam
I graduated in electrical engineering from Bangalore University. My first job was installing and servicing test and measurement equipment for a broad range of applications. My first visit to the US was in 1989 to get trained at various companies in Austin and Dallas. My job took me all over India, visiting power plants, factories, and research labs. Traveling all the time got tiring after couple of years. Then I joined Verifone who had just opened an office in Bangalore. After a few months, I was given the opportunity to transfer to Auburn to be part of a team developing point of sale systems. I was a test engineer responsible for compliance with technical and safety regulations.
While working for Verifone, I felt stable enough in my career to get married to my wife Julie. Then I enrolled in Sac state for a master’s degree in computer engineering. When an opportunity came up at Intel Folsom, I switched jobs again. I have been at Intel for about 25 years now. I have moved between divisions but never left Folsom.
I have two children, my daughter Tara and son Akash. Tara was active in the Interact Club at Bella Vista, becoming the club president. She is also a Toastmaster and attended her first Rotaract meeting at UC Davis last week. Akash was active in Boy Scouts achieving the Eagle Rank. He graduated high school in the middle of Covid and is taking time to figure out what career path to take. Julie is active in the Soroptimist Club and involved in various community service projects.
I joined Rotary about 15 years ago when we tried to charter a club in Gold River. The club tried to grow beyond the charter members but after about four years, we decided to disband the club but continue as Rotarians by joining nearby Rotary clubs. I have been a member of Carmichael Rotary club ever since, one of the best decisions I have ever made!

EFFIE YEAW NATURE CENTER WORK PROJECT
We worked this morning at the Effie Yeaw nature Center restoring habitat to attract pollinators, including the Monarch butterfly. We also planted milkweed the plant that monarch butterflies use to lay their eggs
Those who participated included George Abraham, Stan Roe, Rich Plath, Melody Sipes, Kari and DickBauer, Carol and Mark Beil,RichardOlebe, Carole and Steve Girard, Frank Pease, and Ramona Roikjer. We ate donuts before setting out to work and Togo’s sandwiches after we finished. -President Dick Bauer.
Many thanks to our awesome habitat restoration team and the hardworking support of the Carmichael Rotary volunteers, we planted, irrigated, mulched, and caged over 100 plants today. What great teamwork!
Mary will be pleased to know that hard hats were worn when using the stake pounders and no injuries to report. Safety first.
A troop of cub scouts marching up the main trail had to stop and ask what all the comotion was about? They were happy to hear about pollinator plants and that we were working to provide more food for bees and butterflies, so our mission of educating visitors is already underway!
Thank you so much for all of your planning, prepping, and providing your brain and muscle power to save the world, one small pollinator patch at a time. I am so proud of you all.
Krystin
HAPPY THOUGHTS
On the November 2nd Meeting, Vicky Boatwright, oversaw the "Happy Fines".
An ecstatic Phil Danz jumped up a gave his hard earned meal money ($20) celebrating that the California Bears annihilated the Oregon State Beavers 39-25 in a recent Pac 10 game, JayBoatwright who is an alumnus of Ore. State made some innocuous weak rebuttal for $5.; StanRoe noted for everybody that he went on a Grand Canyon with his family and appropriately BONGED THE GONG: Ramounal Roikjer put in her hard earned meal money because today's topic (the R.I. Foundation) was great!; Vince Iosso (from afar on Zoom) BONGED THE GONG because his daughter is moving to Wisconsin and his whole family will be in one place! (albeit a frozen place in the winter). Dick Bauer put some $ in recognition of the Superheros meeting they attended on Saturday; Vicky put in her hard earned meal money because she visited the Joshua Tree National Park last week.

Donations as of 10-20-2021
During the incumbency of President David Thorman, (2013-14) it was decided that instead of giving a particular gift, ie coffee mug, pen etc. to honor our guest speaker each week, we would simply donate a book to the Carmichael Library. So below are many of the books that we have donated in honor of recent speakers.
It is the "gift that keeps of giving" because those who will check out these books from the library will derive many hours of pleasure for years to come, and it enhances learning and literacy. The books are chosen byBertaBoegel, Branch Supervisor, Carmichael Library, subsidiary of the Sacramento Public Library.
rboegel@saclibrary.org
Due to the quantity of books donated as of 1-5-2021 (NEARING 400), I have noted only the last 20 or so. The prior tabulations of books donated have been archived and will be in the memory of the Carmichael Club in Club Runner.
