Fellow Carmichael Rotarians,

We have been invited to partner with Arden Arcade Rotary Club on their grant project to build a wooden enclosure for Effie Yeaw's cute rescued tortoise next month (he's been living in a tub since they received him).  Jay and I have been meeting with the parties to help plan the project and Effie Yeaw is super excited for this new addition to their facility.

The entire structure will only be 16 feet long and 7 feet deep, off the back of the deck of the Nature Center's main building.  Carmichael Rotarians have been asked to provide some hands-on help on two dates:
  • Sat, Oct 15 beginning approx 9 am: (completed)
  • Sun, Oct 23 beginning approx 9 am:  Installation day at Effie Yeaw (see attached map below).  We will be putting together all the parts and installing with AA Rotarians.
More details will be available soon, but please let me know ASAP which activities you want to help with so we have a Carmichael Rotary head count to share with the committee.  Arden Arcade plans to give us equal signage on the enclosure, so let's show them what a great club we are to work with.

Thanks,
Vicky
Community Service Chair

It's not too late to sign up for this Sunday's (10/23) work day. You don't need to have any special skills - just bring your gloves and willingness to help.  Please let me know ASAP (email or text me) if you can help so I can let AA Rotary know who will be there from our club. - Vicky

The Sacramento County Jury

We were fortunate to have two very expert persons today, at our meeting, to tell us all about the Sacramento County Jury System. (left above) is Carla Fleming, Jury Coordinator and (right above) is Ginger Durham, Jury Commissioner of the Sacramento Superior Court. As a thorn between two roses, is situated our esteemed President Richard Olebe.
The Jury topic was so interesting that our members asked Ginger and Carla a great number of questions and came away with a lot of knowledge about the Sacramento County Jury. To see more, "click" on Read More below.

During the incumbency of  President David Thorman,(2013-14) it was decided that instead of giving a particular gift, ie coffee mug, pen etc. to honor our guest speaker each week, we would simply donate a book to the Carmichael Library. So below are many of the books that we have donated in honor of recent speakers.
It is the "gift that keeps of giving" because those who will check out these books from the library will derive many hours of pleasure for years to come, and it enhances learning and literacy. The books are chosen by Greg Freeman, Branch Supervisor, Carmichael Library, subsidiary of the Sacramento Public Library
gregfreeman@saclibrary.org

Over the past eight years, nearly 500 books have been donated to the Carmichael Public Library. We show only the latest donated books with the names of the Guest Speakers.
