CLUB ASSEMBLY AND ELECTION OF PRESIDENT
With the Club Assembly, we talked of many things regarding the workings of the Club and many ideas were expressed freely - It was a most interesting evening. However the main accomplished was the election of the new President (or in this case Presidents) for the Rotary Year of 2023-2024. George Abraham and Mark Biel will be sharing the presidency. Kudos and thankful appreciation was given unanimously by the members. The election of the rest of the leadership will follow shortly.

We had the pleasure of having Matt Melcher, as a guest of George Abraham at our January 3rd meeting. Matt announced that the Carmichael Rotary Club has become affiliated with his Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops. He described his groups:

"We were chartered on December 1st, 1965, and have been a part of the Carmichael community for over 50 years.

On March 1st, 2019, we chartered Troop 386 for girls.

We meet once a week on Tuesday nights at 7:00 PM at the Elks Lodge at 5631 Cypress Avenue in Carmichael, California.

Our Troop is in the Pioneer Express District (Carmichael, Fair Oaks, Orangevale, Citrus Heights, North Highlands, Rio Linda, Natomas and Elverta) of the Golden Empire Council (Sacramento Area) of the Boy Scouts of America.

We have a long-standing tradition of being adult guided but youth run. The "Patrol Method" has allowed our troop to achieve great success in Scout advancement and youth leadership development while still having a great time on our monthly activities and at summer camp.

Here is a quick FAQ from our website - http://www.scoutlander.com/publicsite/unitcustom.aspx?UID=30346&CUSTOMID=77681

We have about 20 active boys in the Boy Troop and about 10 active in the Girl Troop.  We have a strong participation from BSA trained adults that tend to stay involved with the troop in weekly meetings and either through participation in merit badges, monthly camping or annual events such as Snow Camping, 50 mile treks, Philmont, etc.

We show our community service thru Scouting for Food, Eagle Projects, Parades, Flags on Veterans Day and Memorial Day, etc.  I joined the troop in 2016 and have been personally involved in 12 eagles scout projects including our first eagle from the girl troop.  Each eagle project is different but 80 hours of service hours is a good average."

It was mentioned that the scouts could help us with some of our "hands on" projects. The Carmichael Club looks forward to a productive collaboration with them - thank you George and thank you Matt.

During the incumbency of  President David Thorman,(2013-14) it was decided that instead of giving a particular gift, ie coffee mug, pen etc. to honor our guest speaker each week, we would simply donate a book to the Carmichael Library. So below are many of the books that we have donated in honor of recent speakers.
It is the "gift that keeps of giving" because those who will check out these books from the library will derive many hours of pleasure for years to come, and it enhances learning and literacy. The books are chosen by Greg Freeman, Branch Supervisor, Carmichael Library, subsidiary of the Sacramento Public Library
gregfreeman@saclibrary.org

Over the past eight years, nearly 500 books have been donated to the Carmichael Public Library. We show only the latest donated books with the names of the Guest Speakers.
