As the Rotary World turns, a whole new leadership begins all throughout Rotary, from top to bottom on July 1st of every year - an amazing feat! This year we have Rotary International President Holger Knaack of the Rotary Club of Herzogtum Lauenburg-Molin, Germany - the first German R.I. president ever; Brent Hastey of the Rotary Club of SouthYuba County Sunrise is our new District Governor for District 5180; What is significant for our Club of Carmichael, is that David Thorman, one of our most stalwart members, is our new president for the third time (having been president for one full term, 2013-4, and the 1st quarter term in the year of the famous quartet of Past Presidents (Stan Roe, Vince Iosso, and Jay Boatwright, circa 2015-6. Dave has the distinction of not only following Vicky Boatwright, the first woman president but also being the oldest sitting president in Carmichael's long history. The Rotary International theme for this year is "Rotary Opens Opportunities" and the District's theme is "FFF'n Amazing" where the "F's" stand for Family, Friendship, Foundation.
Details of each of these individuals can be found by clicking on "Read More", bottom right.
President David Thorman opened the 2nd "virtual" meeting of the new 2020-2021 year and the "pledge" and "thought" went to esteemed Past President Dick Bauer who gave the following appropriate thought. It was shown graphically:

FUTURE PROGRAMS
►JULY 28 - BRIAN MOORE - "WINE TASTING"
► AUGUST 4 - ROD MALLOY - "FUTURE BREATHE"
►AUGUST 11 - Brent Hastey, D.G. District 5180
►AUGUST 25 - Michael Reinero, District Membership Chair
►SEPTEMBER 1 - DANIEL CAMPS - Being an Exchange Student in Calfornia
Gregg Fishman graduated from Sac State in the mid-80s and began his career as a news reporter and anchor at KFBK and later at KGO Radio in San Francisco. He became a public information officer at SMUD in 1998, and later moved to the California Independent System Operator—the organization that runs the power grid for most of the state.
He worked at the California State Association of Counties for six years, and for the past almost five and half years he’s been serving on the SMUD Board of Directors representing Ward 3, which covers Arden Arcade, parts of Carmichael and East Sacramento.
Gregg is also an active community volunteer—he co-leads the longest-running Sacramento Tree Foundation neighborhood partnership that has planted more than two-thousand trees in the community.
It is impressive that in 1992, he was part of a Rotary Group Study Exchange trip from District 5180 to District 4271 in Colombia South America.
Gregg’s wife Debra is a psychologist working in health management and education at the UC Davis Health System. They have two daughters, ages 20 and 24, and they have lived in Arden Park since 2001.
(since Gregg gave a very precise slide show detailing his many topical points, your editor chose to reproduce them in their entirety - below)
Then our new (old) President David pronounced that, in honor of Gregg's presentation, that a book will be donated to the Carmichael Library (subsidiary of the Sacramento Public Library) and one could see that Gregg was pleased.
In keeping with Carmichael Rotary policy of non-endorsement of political candidates,
all candidates are invited to come to our Rotary meeting and will be given equal time..
HAPPY FINES
As has been the case in our "Virtual Format", new (old) president David oversaw the "Happy Thoughts" session. Troy Drennon could hardly wait to tell us that Sunday night, he installed a new "fridge" and it worked out successfully , value 1A ($20), Geronimo (Greg Herrera) bragged about how he taught "Sparky" to wear a mask (picture in the "Announcements" section; George Abraham's son now has a driver's license, good and bad aspects to it; Frank Pease is getting out of town for his birthday (1A); Katha Danz gave a big 1A to the Club, Mark Beil is happy virtually to be here; Walter Malhoski sadly went to the Goodwill store but couldn't bear to see the things he was giving away (my interpretation); and thank God for Hamid Ahmadi because he saved the session by BONGING THE GONG 'cause he's going to be busy and he doesn't want the Club to forget him.......
BELL RINGERS
STAN ROE
BONG GONGERS
HAMID AHMADI; VINCE IOSSO; STAN ROE (2); DAVID THORMAN
EXPLANATION: A BELL RINGER IS SOMEONE WHO DONATES $100 TO THE CLUB IN A GIVEN YEAR; A GONG BONGER IS ONE WHO DONATES AN ADDITIONAL $100 TO EITHER THE CLUB OR R.I. FOUNDATION (FOR GENERAL OR SPECIFIC PURPOSE)
During the incumbency of President David Thorman,(2013-14) it was decided that instead of giving a particular gift, ie coffee mug, pen etc. to honor our guest speaker each week, we would simply donate a book to the Carmichael Library. So below are many of the books that we have donated in honor of recent speakers.
It is the "gift that keeps of giving" because those who will check out these books from the library will derive many hours of pleasure for years to come, and it enhances learning and literacy. The books are chosen byBertaBoegel, Branch Supervisor, Carmichael Library, subsidiary of the Sacramento Public Library.

Yourbulletin editor just couldn’t help bringing to your notice the relevance of the last six “Book Donations” by Branch Supervisor, Berta Boegel given “in honor of” our recent keynote speakers to the Carmichael Library (Sacramento Public Library) at our Club meetings. Note that Berta has fined tuned the speakers topic to the subject of the book! They are below:
Missy McCall, who talked about “Human Trafficking”, book donated in her name: Under theBirch Tree: A Memoir of Discovering Connections and Finding a Home by Nancy Chadwick.
Mark Urban, who talked about a trip to Ethiopia, book donated in his name: The Pharaoh’sTreasure: The Origin of Paper and the Rise of Western Civilization by John Gaudet.
Dr. Beverly Wesner-Hoen, who talked about being a part of Rotary Fellowship, book donated Why To Kill a Mockingbird Matters: What Harper Lee’s Book and Iconic American Film Mean to Us Today by Tom Santopietro
Doug Haaland, who talked about his trip to Israel, book donated in his name: Shaya: An Odysseyof Food, My Journey Back to Israel by Alon Shaya.
and 6. Bill Baxter and Rich Plath, who talked about “Fly Fishing” – get this – “On the Fly”: HoboLiterature and Songs 1879-1941 ed. By Iain Mcintyre. How appropriate….
SPEAKERS/BOOK DONATIONS TO THE CARMICHAEL LIBRARY
As of June 26, 2017, we have purchased nearly 160 titles in honor of our speakers! Because of the large number of books, we are not showing them all at this time.
