It is with tremendous sadness that Dad and I must share, his beloved wife and my mother, Maryann Shearer, passed away in the early morning of January 12th. Mom has gone Home to the Lord and is now in His hands to be cared for and loved. We are beside ourselves with grief and despair and are unsure just how to live in a world now without her.
We invite you to attend her Memorial Service at Carmichael Presbyterian Church on February 9th at 11:00am in the Sanctuary. You are welcome to speak at her service if you like. After the service, you are invited and encouraged to attend a Celebration of her Life (in McMillen Hall on the church grounds). This gathering is intended to be joyous as we meet, greet, hug, and share our numerous stories about mom and her zest for life. Mom would just love that, don't you agree!
We will serve a light lunch and beverages, therefore for planning purposes we would appreciate it if you'd let us know if you plan on attending. (Please press Reply and let me know.) Also, please scan and send Dad a favorite photo of mom and you, or of just mom, as Dad is creating a Memorial Photo Album (and keepsake.) Please send within the next 5 days if possible.
Please call to inform and/or Forward this email to friends of mom who may not be in this email group.
The second meeting of 2019 was opened by President Greg Herrera and the baton was immediately given to Stan Roe, who provided the following true statement as our "The Thought for the Day"
►REPORT ON UGANDA PROJECT: A wonderful article was published in the January 11th edition of the Carmichael Times about our water project. It has a rather handsome picture of RichardOlebe tasting water:
►David Thormanhasreported that some of us have attended a planning meeting to travel to Africa next September and go on Safari and to visit our project in Uganda. Catherine Survillas, Rotarian and expert tour director has put together an exciting package for us. Going in a group would be cost effective and a lot of fun. Let David know if you are interested.

Tim Marquess is in the real estate business. An interesting and needed business (especially today) with a mission – to provide affordable housing to people. They buy houses and take the properties in “as is” condition. Then they pair the houses to people who otherwise would not be able to buy a home. People with less than perfect credit and who may not have a substantial down payment. They take outdated homes and work with the buyer to make that home affordable. For Tim the job is a good direction in his life – helping people. Below is information about his company and if you wish, you can invest with them.
We were lucky today to have Jay Boatwright tell us about his passion – making beer. We were double lucky because he brought samples of his products for us to taste. Jay was exposed to beer way back from his father who used to brew it, then wife Vicky bought him a “beer making kit” as a present and he was off to the races. Jay gave a slide show of the intricacies of the beer making process (quite complicated) whilst we tasted 5 different beers. They were:
Pale Ale ( it was good)
Another Pale Ale (it was better)
Raspberry Wheat (his daughter likes this beer)
New England IRA (It was best yet)
Imperial Oatmeal Stout (George Abraham thought it the best. Jay and I agreed – it had a richer, heavier flavor and darker color)
President Greg thanked Jay for his tasty presentation and noted that he deserved, in his name, a book to be donated to the Carmichael library.
PICS

A rather sanguine "Happy Thought" session was conducted by President-elect Vicky Boatwright, it went as follows:
Bill Donnoe put in $20 because he lost his dog after 15 years, another $20 (something about his house), another $20 ‘cause his birthday is coming up, another $20 for his 47th Anniversary on the 29th and another $20 to add up to becoming a BONGGONGER; Chuck McBride reminded us to give “Blood”; Dr. Greg Hererra said that it takes 126 days to make a red blood cell; Vicky Boatwright gave blood recently and now has to wait....

RAFFLE
SO for the many times that Don Wangberg has had the winning ticket, you might think that he would win the Raffle prize which is now over $600, but alas, Don only got the 4 of hearts and a bottle of wine from the Club's secret cellar (that Don's son in law Ed Bunting will relish).
I am forwarding the message below that Paris posted in her Facebook page a few days ago since I am not sure if you saw it on Facebook. I will appreciate if you can forward this announcement to all of my Rotary Club friends. Also, I am attaching the marketing flyer that is being used by my publisher. If anybody is interested they can use the links below to order the book directly. If any of them wants me to get it for them from the publisher, I can get them as well and give them to you. Thanks
Yourbulletin editor just couldn’t help bringing to your notice the relevance of the last six “Book Donations” by Branch Supervisor, Berta Boegel given “in honor of” our recent keynote speakers to the Carmichael Library (Sacramento Public Library) at our Club meetings. Note that Berta has fined tuned the speakers topic to the subject of the book! They are below:
Missy McCall, who talked about “Human Trafficking”, book donated in her name: Under theBirch Tree: A Memoir of Discovering Connections and Finding a Home by Nancy Chadwick.
Mark Urban, who talked about a trip to Ethiopia, book donated in his name: The Pharaoh’sTreasure: The Origin of Paper and the Rise of Western Civilization by John Gaudet.
Dr. Beverly Wesner-Hoen, who talked about being a part of Rotary Fellowship, book donated Why To Kill a Mockingbird Matters: What Harper Lee’s Book and Iconic American Film Mean to Us Today by Tom Santopietro
Doug Haaland, who talked about his trip to Israel, book donated in his name: Shaya: An Odysseyof Food, My Journey Back to Israel by Alon Shaya.
and 6. Bill Baxter and Rich Plath, who talked about “Fly Fishing” – get this – “On the Fly”: HoboLiterature and Songs 1879-1941 ed. By Iain Mcintyre. How appropriate….
During the incumbency of President David Thorman,(2013-14) it was decided that instead of giving a particular gift, ie coffee mug, pen etc. to honor our guest speaker each week, we would simply donate a book to the Carmichael Library. So below are some of the books that we have donated in honor of recent speakers.
It is the "gift that keeps of giving" because those who will check out these books from the library will derive many hours of pleasure for years to come, and it enhances learning and literacy. The books are chosen byBertaBoegel, Branch Supervisor, Carmichael Library, subsidiary of the Sacramento Public Library.
