Foundation Month

The Carmichael Rotary Club sponsored a well project in Uganda which brought clean water to 10,000 people (circa 2018).
President Richard Olebe opened the November 29th meeting of the Carmichael Rotary Club at the Old Spaghetti Factory near Watt Ave. He fulfilled all of his commitments, namely, the reading of the "Pledge", "the Four-Way Test", and the "Thought for the Day" (or week?)

Hi all,

I have some good news - Carmichael Elementary needs our help!  They are excited to partner with our club again this year with even more opportunities than in the past.  Please see below and let me know of your interests ASAP:
  • The second grade teacher has received a some brand new raised planter beds which are in the box and unassembled, along with many bags of potting soil.  She needs someone to assemble them and fill them with soil so the students can start planting their winter garden.  This would likely be during a weekday, ASAP.
  • The kindergarten teachers would like volunteers to come to their classroom, probably just an hour or less at a time, to read a book or two to their students.
  • The kindergarten teachers would also like a few volunteers to help with their morning outdoor recess time.  They'd like a couple "stations" where an adult would show them how to play a game or do an activity. The game/activity would be provided - they just need someone to oversee it and help the children participate.
  • The school's annual book fair will be 3 afternoons in November:  11/15, 16 & 17.  They'd like 2 to 3 volunteers to help watch the children with the books, and possibly help with book purchases.  They just need us for about one hour on each of those 3 days - starting around noon or so.
  • They plan to have their Winter Wonderland again this year and would like our help.  They hope we can bring Santa & Mrs. Claus (who will be inside the multi-purpose room this year) and plan to have a similar setup to last year in addition to more activities inside.
  • There are more activities being planned for next spring (Jog-a-thon, Open house) - I will pass along info regarding more opportunities when I hear about them.
I'd like to get a response back to the school soon so they know how many Carmichael Rotarians to count on, so please reply to this email or call or text me.

Let me know if you have any questions at all.  Hoping to hear from you soon!

The Public Defender's Office - Alice Michel

At our meeting today, Nov. 29th, 2022, we were honored to have Alice Michel, Public Defender, to speak about her role in the criminal system of Sac. County. She is far left in the photo above. Next to her is Betsy Glade, Amy Ruggles and our own President Richard Olebe. We learned a lot about her office and for more information, please click on "Read More" below....

During the incumbency of  President David Thorman,(2013-14) it was decided that instead of giving a particular gift, ie coffee mug, pen etc. to honor our guest speaker each week, we would simply donate a book to the Carmichael Library. So below are many of the books that we have donated in honor of recent speakers.
It is the "gift that keeps of giving" because those who will check out these books from the library will derive many hours of pleasure for years to come, and it enhances learning and literacy. The books are chosen by Greg Freeman, Branch Supervisor, Carmichael Library, subsidiary of the Sacramento Public Library
gregfreeman@saclibrary.org

Over the past eight years, nearly 500 books have been donated to the Carmichael Public Library. We show only the latest donated books with the names of the Guest Speakers.
