ANOTHER ROTARY YEAR PASSES  AND A NEW ONE BEGINS
JULY 1, 2020 TO JUNE 30, 2021
As the Rotary World turns, a whole new leadership begins all throughout Rotary, from top to bottom on July 1st of every year - an amazing feat! This year we have Rotary International President Holger Knaack of the Rotary Club of Herzogtum Lauenburg-Molin, Germany - the first German R.I. president ever; Brent Hastey of the Rotary Club of South Yuba County Sunrise is our new District Governor for District 5180;  What is significant for our Club of Carmichael, is that David Thorman, one of our most stalwart members, is our new president for the third time (having been president for one full term, 2013-4, and the 1st quarter term in the year of the famous quartet of Past Presidents (Stan Roe, Vince Iosso, and Jay Boatwright, circa 2015-6.  Dave has the distinction of not only following Vicky Boatwright, the first woman president but also being the oldest sitting president in Carmichael's long history. The Rotary International theme for this year is "Rotary Opens Opportunities" and the District's theme is "FFF'n Amazing" where the "F's" stand for Family, Friendship, Foundation.

Rotary International President Holger Knaack holds a degree in business administration from the University of Applied Sciences Kiel. Since 1995, Holger has been CEO of the real estate company Knaack KG. Previously, he was a partner and General Manager of Knaack Bakery Enterprises, a 125-year-old family business. Holger is Chairman and founder of the Karl-Adam
\-Stiftung (Karl Adam Foundation). For six years, he also served as Chairman of Rotary Youth Exchange Germany. A Rotarian since 1991, Holger is a member of the Rotary Club of Herzogtum Lauenburg-Mölln. He was RI Director and RI Treasurer as well as a member of the Executive Committee of the Board. In addition, Holger has served as Council on Legislation Representative, Zone Coordinator, GETS Trainer and RI Training Leader. He has been a member and Chair of numerous RI committees. He was Moderator of the 2019 Rotary International Assembly, Endowment/Major Gift Adviser and Co-Chair of the 2019 Hamburg Convention HOC. Holger is a Major Donor to The Rotary Foundation, a member of the Paul-Harris Society and the Bequest Society. Married to Susanne for 43 years, the couple has hosted more than 40 Rotary Youth Exchange students. In his leisure time, Holger enjoys sailing and playing golf. Brent Hasty, District Governor 5180 for 2020-2021 was born and raised in the Plumas Lake area, representing the 5th generation of his family to live in Yuba County, CA. Brent graduated from Lindhurst High School in 1977, where he was on the wrestling team and played tuba in the marching band. Brent attended Yuba College, becoming active in local politics and was first elected in 1987 to a seat on Reclamation District 784. Brent later served as a county supervisor, found and chaired the Yuba-Sutter Economic Development Corporation, chaired the Yuba County Water Agency and was chair of the Yuba Community College District Board of Trustees and is currently serving on their Board. Brent is the current president of the Assoc. of CA Water Agencies. Brent owns and operates Plumas Lake Self Storage. In 1986, Brent joined the South Yuba county Sunrise Rotary Club, was Secretary Treasurer in 1987, vice president in 1989, and president in 1990-91. Brent would serve as president again during 2010-11 and Assistant Governor in 2013-17. Brent and his wife Alisan, have been married 35 years and raised four amazing children – two whom are Rotarians. They have plenty of dogs, a few horses, and a donkey. The apples of his eyes are his two grandchildren. In his spare time, Brent enjoys building and racing cars with his team, the Nerd Herd, on the 24 Hours of Lemons circuit.
 
David Thorman was born in El Paso, Texas July 17, 1938 (He has the distinction of being the oldest Carmichael Rotary president in the Club's history ). 
He went to El Paso, Texas  High School. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Rice University in Houston in 1960, Bachelor of Architecture in 1965.
He served as a Naval officer 1961-1964.  Served on USS Enterprise (was a "plank officer) first crew after building the ship.
He worked for international architectural/construction management firm, CRSS, in Houston working on projects across the United States and the Middle East.
Dave then, luckily for us, moved to Sacramento in 1994.  He managed the Sacramento office for Kitchell, and worked with other firms on design/construction projects in California, Oregon and Washington.
David had the distinction of being appointed the State Architect of California from 2005-2010, when he retired. He joined Carmichael Rotary July 2012 and almost immediately was voted for President in 2013. He is married to Dana Newell  and has two daughters, Cai and Kendall, also one grandson, Toby.
Dave and Dana live in Gold River (he is currently Argonaut Village HOA president).
