demotion of president dick bauer

So it came to pass that our beloved President Dick Bauer came to the end of his term and was demoted to the status of just a regular member. In one of his last official duties, he elicited his partner, Kari Bauer, to lead us in the pledge and asked for a volunteer for the “Thought for the Day”.  Walter Malhoski  looked at his phone and said a great thought (on the fly) and we went on to the general meeting.
GUESTS

1st Lady Kari Bauer and Lucy Jennings (5 year old daughter of Tyler)

President Bauer, after enforcing the reading of the “4 Way Test” , and a comedy spin off – went on to express and big thank you to those who helped him in his year and to outline this year’s successes.
President Bauer announced that our esteemed leader of the Uganda Water Project, Richard Olebe, will leave for Uganda on July 2nd to oversee the promulgation of the project. He introduced Richard who said that 1 and ½ years ago as a Rotarian newbie, he spoke of his dream to bring clean water to 10,000 people in his native region of Tororo. He said that Dick Bauer, who, along with the enthusiastic support of members of our Club, have brought the project to imminent fruition. He said “Thank you Dick". Without you, this would not have happened”.
President Dick thanked the Club members, and the new Foundation Board for the Ugandan Project. He mentioned that Richard Olebe became the District’s “Rookie of the Year” and PDG Jim Thompson was elected to the “Hall of Fame”.
He thanked Bulletin Editor and Public Image Chair Phil Danz for winning 1st place for “Public Image”, Bill Donnoe for the Dictionary Project; Phil Danz & George Abraham for the successful “Speech Contest” in which our winner Julia Luna went to place third at the District contest; he thanked Alan  Gallaway and Greg Herrera for their sense of humor – not necessarily for the quality of their jokes; and Rich Shipp and Jay Sedlak for the Golf Tournament and Pacific Coast Co. for the bulk of the donation to Easter Seals.
He mentioned the helpful and successful work projects for Effie Yeaw pulling thistles and planting trees and Jeff Thompson for the organizing of the "Naturefest" project. Rich Plath, Stan Rose and Jay Sedlak for the Christmas Baskets. Jeff Thompson again  and Karen Munsterman for their work on the Special Olympics. Greg Herrera (Chair), David Thorman,  Jay and Vicky Boatwright, and Chef Jeff Thompson for work at our Crab Feed.  Dick thanked Shama and Paris Chakroborty for the great Christmas party, Phil & Katha Danz and Mark and Carol Beil for spring and fall fellowship picnics, and those who attended the fireside chats and who became Rotary benefactors.
The Club thanked back President Dick for his great year of leadership with a standing ovation! He also got a past president's plaque and pin from Jay Sedlak.
Unfortunately, our new president for this next year, Greg Herrera, was not in attendance along with the “phantom donor” hmmmm – we hope we will not have a “phantom president”!!!
The Club will be “dark” next week, July 3rd for our national holiday and next meeting will be on Tuesday, July 10th – on with the new Rotary year!
