ABOUT OUR NEW LEADERS (2018-2019)

ROTARY INTERNATIONAL PRESIDENT, BARRY RASSIN
Rotary Club of East Nassau
New Providence, Bahamas
Barry Rassin earned an MBA in health and hospital administration from the University of Florida, and is the first fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives in the Bahamas. He recently retired after 37 years as president of Doctors Hospital Health System and continues as an adviser. He is a lifetime member of the American Hospital Association and has served on several boards, including the Quality Council of the Bahamas, Health Education Council, and Employer’s Confederation.
A Rotarian since 1980, Rassin has served Rotary as director and is vice chair of The Rotary Foundation Board of Trustees. He was an RI training leader and the aide to 2015-16 RI President K.R. Ravindran.
Rassin received Rotary's highest honor, the Service Above Self Award, as well as other humanitarian awards for his work leading Rotary’s relief efforts in Haiti after the 2010 earthquake there. He and his wife, Esther, are Major Donors and Benefactors of The Rotary Foundation.
I ask each of you, whether you've been in Rotary for 70 years or 7 days to continue to commit to being a leader, continue your journey of "active charity and willing service" and to 'Be the Inspiration' in your clubs, in your communities, and in your country.

 5180 District Governor Jack Arney

My wife, Maureen, asked me the other day what was my vision for our district, what was I hoping for over the next 12 months. I told her I simply hope each Rotarian in our district feels an even greater sense of pride for all that we do as an organization, but more importantly all that they do as a Rotarian.

I am grateful to each and every one of you for your service and look forward to seeing all of you during this coming year!

Greg Herrera, President - Carmichael Rotary Club
Greg has made many accomplishment In the field of gynecology – too numerous to mention here. Also Greg has been involved with crisis clinic care and “Safe Houses.” Since June 1995 he has served as an “Expert Reviewer” for the Medical Board of California (recent cases reviewed 2011/2012).  Greg is serving on the board of the American River College Foundation, and is a consultant with Minerva Corporation (medical instrumetation) as Chair of the Data Management Committee (DMC).
Greg tells his story as follows:
I was born in Sacramento CA over 70 years ago (Sutter Memorial), raised in the Arden-Arcade neighborhood, went to five different grade schools (district boundaries were changing for baby boomers), and went to Encina High School.  My father owned a salvage yard (used machinery and equipment) and I grew up working with dad in “The Shop.”  I worked repairing cars, trucks, light plants, salvaging copper, and was lucky enough to build my first motorcycle in the shop at age 16.  I went to American River College and the experience was transformational in that it inspired me to enter into fields of science.  I carried this inspiration through my studies at the University of California at Davis, Berkeley, and related Graduate Schools.  I started SCUBA diving at age 14, and it became a lifelong passion and eventually a line of work.  I am a Master Diver, a retired diving instructor, and I used my diving skills during my time working as a research biologist at the University of California at Bodega Bay.  At one point I applied to the California Fish and Game, Highway Patrol, and medical school one dreary winter in Bodega Bay, and eventually went to UCLA Medical School … almost a random choice for them and me, but a great fit for me.  I hold black belts in both Judo and Karate, and have taught self- defense to women and children in a program called “Never A Victim!” I am married to Sarah Stoltz (MD, GYN. and also retired).  I have three children, ages 42, 40, and 28.  I have two grandchildren ages two and a half and six.”
Now retired from active clinical practice, after serving more than 33 years in medicine, Greg is enthusiastically throwing himself into Rotary and is serving as Carmichael’s Club President for the 2018-2019 years.
